Yes, you read it right! Google rolled out an experimental feature in Gmail Labs: Offline Gmail. So even if you're offline, you can open your web browser, go to gmail.com, and get to your mail just like you're used to. So far offline Gmail is available to everyone who uses Gmail in US or UK English over the next couple of days, so if you don't see it under the Labs tab yet, it should be there soon. Once you turn on this feature, Gmail uses Gears to download a local cache of your mail. As long as you're connected to the network, that cache is synchronized with Gmail's servers. When you lose your connection, Gmail automatically switches to offline mode, and uses the data stored on your computer's hard drive instead of the information sent across the network. You can read messages, star and label them, and do all of the things you're used to doing while reading your webmail online. Any messages you send while offline will be placed in your outbox and automatically sent the next time Gmail detects a connection. source

Microsoft announced the first release candidate of Internet Explorer 8. What’s New with IE8?
Microsoft claims that there are many ways in which Internet Explorer 8 makes browsing faster and easier: | | Smart Address Bar. In addition to matching URLs in the user’s site history, the Smart Address Bar in Internet Explorer 8 has been reorganized to more efficiently match what a user types in the Address Bar with titles in the history as well as content in their favorites without duplicates, making it easier to locate sites the user wants to visit. | | | Enhanced Find On Page. Find On Page functionality has been enhanced to improve how users search for text on Web pages. | | | Find On Page. Find On Page now appears as a toolbar activated by pressing Ctrl-F or choosing Find On Page from the Edit menu or Instant Search Box. The toolbar appears below the user’s tab so it does not obscure any of the text on the page. | | | Result count. The enhanced Find On Page functionality shows the user how many places the search text appears on the page. | | | Result highlighting. The enhanced Find On Page functionality highlights all places on the page where the search text appears so users can locate them at a glance. | | | Redesigned “New Tab” Page. The “New Tab” Page in Internet Explorer 8 has been redesigned to allow the user to perform common tasks by clicking links on the page. | | | Tab Groups. When one tab is opened from another, the new tab is placed next to the originating tab, and both are marked with a colored tab, so users can quickly discern which tabs have related content. |

The Google's AJAX APIs Playground allows you to change the sample code, re-run it, and see the results in real time. You can even export your code, save it, and also get a full HTML source. The code samples on the playground run the scope from specific visualizations like for the Motion Chart, Annotated Time Line (used in Google Finance) or Geo Map to covering specific Visualization API topics like event handling and placing data source requests. This would be like a single tool to write, debug and integrate visualizations from the Visualization API into your web pages. Source |
